A new reason to write

From mindless scrolling to mindful writing

This is a full excerpt from an entry I made in my journal this morning. (I use Day One, if you’re curious.)

I’m starting a new journal today. It will serve one purpose, and one purpose only.

Every time I feel like reaching for my phone and browsing mindlessly through social media feeds, I will try and come to this journal to write something instead. That way, I will be doing something I’ve always wanted to do more of (i.e., write) while keeping my mind away from useless drivel.

I will have no plans or tactics or goals for this journal like I had for the previous one [for context]. I will write whatever I feel like writing about at the moment.

I named it my Distraction Journal. Not very creative, I know, but not pretentious either.

I wrote this at the and of the entry:

Maybe I will look back on this someday and write a blog post about it.

Maybe I will.
