To the year that flew by

Reflections on 2018

I’m writing this on the phone as I pace around in my room. I never do that (not the pacing, but the writing-on-the-phone) but I’m feeling rather comfortable today.

There’s only a few more hours left in this year. For me, as it may have been for some of you, it flew by.

That is not to say I didn’t enjoy it. I did, immensely.

The first few months were uneventful. In the middle of the year I moved my company to a new office, and things started to get a little frisky. Business became good, slowly, which is the way I like it.

All the highlights of the year were towards the end. I made a new friend, and started a podcast with him. I took an extended break and spent 23 wonderful days in Indonesia. My business made a killing in December.

Back in January, I was, by anybody’s reckoning, stumbling a little in the dark, trying to find my footing. I don’t think I’ve found myself yet, but I sure do feel a little less lost.

To me the mark of the new year will be rather unremarkable, in the same way I’ve come to treat arbitrary points in time that I have no control over, like birthdays.

Here’s to another year that will, inevitably, fly by. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it, too.
