Twitter is a great platform to practice writing. I’m only just realizing this.
Think about it:
- Character limitation forces you to edit/summarize better.
- If you want people to pay attention to what you write, you have to learn to make things interesting. (It’s a learnable skill, trust me)
There is also the fact that, if you follow the right accounts, Twitter could also vastly improve your vocabulary, without you even knowing it.
I thought of writing as a serious career choice sometime back. So I started blogging, and it went nowhere. Sure, I still have this blog, but I’m certainly not doing what I originally intended to do with it.
I realized I never would be good enough to support myself with my writing, so I pursued other opportunities instead.
But I still am very interested in becoming a better communicator. Since I can handle a pen much better than a mic, I’m hoping to do this by writing more, and writing better.
Perhaps the only tweak I’ve done to be able to better apply myself is that now I write for myself first, and for others second, if at all. That’s how I started journaling.
Now that I’ve realized the value of Twitter in all this, my account is going to be more threads, more strings of thoughts that lead nowhere — my monkey mind on full display.
I imagine an advance apology to my followers is in order.
