I have written so many music-related posts over the years. They range from music recommendations, to gear reviews (these aren’t directly music-related, but tangential), thoughts on music-adjacent films, gig recaps, and instrument talk. My knowledge may be limited, but that hasn’t stopped me.
A few years ago I wrote a post comparing the sound quality of Apple Music and Spotify. The comparison was done with music I intimately knew, so there is quite a bit here about the music I enjoy listening to.
A few months ago I wrote a post while waiting for a gig to start. I’ve done that twice more since then.
A few weeks ago I wrote a post about Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, an annual festival celebrating Irish music and culture, which was hosted in Belfast this year.
A few days ago I wrote a post about how and why I started playing guitar. I also did a song exchange with James which I really enjoyed.
And while I wouldn’t categorise these as blog posts, I always post a short write-up about every concert I go to on my gigs page.
A friend introduced me recently to someone with the phrase “has an encyclopaedic knowledge about certain areas of music”. While I don’t quite agree with my friend’s assessment of me, I get why he would think that. I talk about music a lot, enthusiastically. Some years ago, I remember how another friend remarked on how I tended to talk about entire discographies and not singles. What knowledge I have on the subject comes from a place of deep love and appreciation. And I want to convey that in my writing, however impossible it may seem.
