I’ve been on a bit of a running (and writing) hiatus. Before heading to Wales at the end of June, I had naively imagined I would run and write through the holiday, but neither happened. My last post that I wrote while waiting for Def Leppard hinted at the desire to do them but the reality was quite different. There were things to see and miles to walk which consumed what energy I had and deterred me from running, and too many things going on to carve out any time for writing.
Between the 1st and 2nd runs of Week 9, there was a gap of 12 days. But since I had stayed active on most of these days (long walks along the Welsh coastlines and cliff paths helped) I was able to pick up where I left off with ease. I took two rest days after the 2nd run and finished my 3rd (and last run of the programme) yesterday, at 9.30pm.
2.6 miles is not quite 5K, but the programme focuses on getting you to run for 30 minutes without stopping, which is what I have achieved.
My next goal is to run a sub-30-minute 5K. I have signed up for a Runna subscription and put a plan in place for this. The first run is tomorrow; it’s for 3.25 miles. Although it’s not a notable increase in the distance I’ve been getting used to running, it feels a bit daunting because of the pace variations I have to maintain.
But I’m confident knowing that I managed to get over this first hurdle of running regularly (and actually enjoying it). Anything else that comes out of this habit now feels like a bonus.
